Magnificent Views Along The Cotswold Way

The Devil's Chimney, on the Cotswold Edge, above Cheltenham

The Cotswold Way is one of just 15 National Trails in England.  
It follows the Cotswold Escarpment for 102 miles (164 km) between the beautiful medieval town of Chipping Campden in the north and the city of Bath in the south, which is famous for it's Roman Baths, Abbey and Georgian architecture.

Passing through picturesque towns and villages such as Broadway, Stanton, Winchcombe and Painswick, and offering magnificent views to the west across the Severn Valley to the Malvern Hills, the Severn Estuary and South Wales,  the Cotswold Way offers an extremely satisfying tour with moderate to strenuous walking.

January can be a great time to walk the Cotswolds

Joy on the way to Blockley

Winter can be a great time to walk in the Cotswolds.  We have crisp days with blue skies and bright sunshine intermingled with warmer cloudy days.

January last year we we suffering drought, January this year the ground is very wet.      

Paths are still passable, but with care and we recommend guided rather than self-guided walks. 

Walking boots with a deep tred/lugs for a good grip on wet and icy ground are essential and gaiters for protection from the mud are extremely useful.

The Cotswold ‘Olimpick’ Games 2011

The Cotswold Olimpick Games are held each year on the Friday after the Spring Bank Holiday - so this Friday evening 3rd June at 7:30 on Dover's Hill above Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.

They were first started in 1612 by Robert Dover, who through the games wanted to keep alive the spirit of medieval England and held annually until 1852. In 1951 the tradition was revived and games continue to be an annual event.

Highlights are the British Shin Kicking Championships, the Championship of the Hill, a torchlight procession and bonfire with fireworks.

A great place to be on a special summer evening.
