Snowdrop time

Snowdrops in churchyard at Milton-under-Wychwood, Cotswolds, England
Snowdrops are now in full bloom.
Native to the west of England and Wales, snowdrops are associated with abbeys and churchyards, and are a Roman Catholic symbol of Candlemas, as they are normally in flower around 2nd February, the date of the festival.
They were also planted to mark a line to outside privies in the Wychwood area.

Broadway and the Cotswold Escarpment

Broadway, Broadway Tower and the Cotswold Escarpment are fine places to walk whatever the season.  The views are fantastic from the top of the scarp, and in winter on late afternoons the sunsets are impressive.

Ducky Devotion

Mallards on our rivers and canals form pairs in October or November and stay together throughout the winter until the female lays her eggs in April or May.  The male’s is extremely handsome here as his bottle-green head is very bright at this time of year.

Walking in Wiltshire: Avebury Stone Circle

Avebury Stone Circle lies in the Kennet Valley, Wiltshire, at the south-west end of the Ridgeway, one of England's National Walking Trails.

Avebury is at the centre of one of the greatest surviving concentrations of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in Western Europe. It is truly a very special and, for many, a mystical and sacred place.
