Shakespeare's Way - A 146 mile journey of imagination - Day 2

Day 2. The Oxfordshire Cotswolds: Shipston-on-Stour to Chipping Norton (14 miles – 22.5 km)

Day 2 of Shakespeare's Way starts at Shipston-on-Stour, an old sheep market town and staging post for stagecoaches, which boasts many inns dating from the 17th and 18th centuries on its elegant High Street.

The 14 mile walk leaves behind the black and white, brick and timber buildings of the Avon valley and midland plain (70ft asl), and heads south east, climbing over ridges and crossing valleys of the North Cotswolds to reach Chipping Norton the highest town in the Oxfordshire - at a mere 700ft [213m] asl.

On the way it passes through quiet villages, built first of rust coloured ironstone, then of honey coloured Cotswold limestone and goes by the Rollright Stones a prehistoric site on the ancient Jurassic Way.

Join us along (all or part of) Shakespeare's Way from 22nd April to 1st May 2011. Or do it independently on the self-guided tour.
